Engagement is an everyday experience
An annual survey can describe how people feel, but it cannot create the conditions that help them do good work. Engagement grows through ordinary experiences: a manager keeping a promise, a colleague receiving credit and a team understanding why its work matters.
Turn feedback into visible action
Asking for feedback without responding to it weakens trust. Leaders do not need to solve every concern immediately, but they should acknowledge what they heard, explain priorities and report progress.
- Make responsibilities and decisions clear.
- Recognise useful work specifically and promptly.
- Create safe ways to raise concerns.
- Close the loop after gathering feedback.
Measure what happens between surveys
Retention, internal movement, absence and participation can add context to survey results. The most useful question is not whether one score improved, but whether the daily experience of work is becoming more fair, clear and supportive.
